Welcome to Kindergarten, Classroom 9!
2019-2020 School Year
Dear Parents,
I am so excited about the upcoming school year! Please take the time and read this letter. It has some very important information that will help get you and your child adjusted to this new adventure called Kindergarten!
Homework / Homework Folders
Homework folders go home Monday – Thursday. I keep them over the weekend and get them ready for Monday. That means if you keep homework in the folder, and need to work on the packets over the weekend, please take them out before Friday. The left side of the folder is for paperwork going home (notes, homework, finished work). The right side is for paperwork that is being returned to me. Check your child’s folder nightly! This is great and organized way to communicate and send things back and forth from school.
Please have your child bring their homework folder each day to school.
Math and Language Arts homework packets go home at the beginning of the month and are turned in at the end of each month. At the end of the year, I have a special reward for students that turn in their homework packets on time (the last day of month that we are in school. On the back of the folder I keep track of who has turned them in on time.
Any questions about homework, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Supplies
Many of you have purchased supplies from a Granite School District List. Any supplies that are brought to school are put in a “community” sharing supply area. Please do not put your child’s name on supplies. As the year goes by, I replenish what the students need using these supplies. There are times throughout the year that I will ask for donations. These are so appreciated and thank you in advance for the items. I am attaching a supply list that is recommended for each student.
ST Math
We will begin using a program called ST Math at the beginning of the school year. Your child will be work on ST Math weekly at school and this program can also be used at home! I highly encourage your child practices on this program at home. Information will be sent home on how to login at a later date. Your child will memorize a 13-character password. Sounds impossible? No, it can be done!
Lexia
Hunter Elementary is also lucky to have a literacy program that we use at school and you will also be able to use at home. It is called “Lexia”. Information will be sent home on how to login at a later date. This program will help your child so much. It will help with the alphabet names and sounds and to become a confident reader!
Daily Behavior Cards / Prize Box
Your child will come home with a daily behavior ticket. It will be green, yellow, orange or red. Green – all good, your child had a great day. Yellow – your child pulled a card for not following our rules. Orange – your child pulled two cards for not following the rules. Red – your child pulled three cards for not following the rules.
We practice for several weeks before these cards go home. If your child is consistently pulling cards, I will set up a time to meet with you and discuss consequences of their behavior. Three times on red, your child will visit the principal’s office.
Please keep the green tickets and when your child has ten tickets they will visit the prize box. This is only done on Friday (Thursday, if it a short week).
Field Trips
We have several field trips each year. I will need parent volunteers/chaperones. This will be by who signs up first. Usually, we need 8 parents each field trip. I will have a sign-up sheet at my desk and notes will go to let you know when these trips are scheduled. No younger siblings are allowed to come and only the volunteer/chaperones are allowed to attend.

Expectations
I have very high expectations for each child in my classroom. I expect your child to be in class each day and on time. I expect your child to work and try their best in everything we do! I expect homework to be turned in on time and you and your child should read at least 20 minutes each night. This is so important!
Backpack / Change of Clothes
Your child needs a backpack to bring to school each day. If at all possible, please keep a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents happen and this will ensure your child will not be embarrassed by wearing clothes that is not theirs.
Tardiness
Please bring your child to school on time!!! The school bell rings at 9:00am and 12:45pm. Tardy bell rings at 9:05am and 12:50pm. If you arrive after the tardy bell, you and your child need to go to the front office and get a tardy slip. I will not open the door and allow students/parents in after the tardy bell has rung. Thank you for understanding this policy and following it.
Picking up Your Child On Time!
Please pick your child up on time! I realize sometimes time gets away from us and things happen that we cannot be at school to pick your child up when the bell rings. If this happens, please call the office and let them know. If it continues and your child is late being picked more than 3 times, the office will call the Granite Police Dept.
I am looking forward to a great year! Thank you for all you do in advance!
